Lateral attack
The aggressor approaches his opponent from the side; the two dogs are side by side, flank to flank, before the attack. In attacking, the dog may use his teeth to grab the other dog by the ruff, hug him or exhibit hooking.

This tawny mixed breed male launched a lateral attack on the male Labrador, who has reacted by barking and rearing up on his hind legs.
When this Pointer approached the group of Jack Russel Terriers, they reacted to his invasion of their space with a group attack. Two of the Jack Russels have launched a lateral attack, while a third dog is trying to block the Pointer's path.

The male German Shepherd displays courtship postures as he nears the female Czech Wolf Dog, who avoids eye contact, standing tall (stiffly and still). She then glances at him, hardens her gaze and stares, following him with her eyes and pinning her ears back. The male Shepherd displays a rear approach; the Czech Wolf Dog turns on her rear legs, lowers her tail, flicks her tongue and turns her head towards the male. The Shepherd turns his head and looks straight into her eyes, moves his muzzle nearer and arches his neck. The Wolf Dog exhibits a lateral attack, with an inhibited bite to the neck and open mouth display. The male swerves to the side, then lowers and turns his head. The Wolf Dog exhibits and agonistic pucker, flicks her tongue and jabs the Shepherd with her paw. She then exhibits anal-genital olfactory exploration, and the Shepherd moves away.
