Lunging
A rapid approach toward a dog who is nearby, generally accompanied by an agonistic pucker, snapping and at times an inhibited bite. The approach can also take the form of a short hop and/or a few running steps.
(Goodmann et al., 2002; Koler-Matznick et al., 2005)
In this interaction between two females, the mixed breed on the right is lunging forward towards the Segugio Italiano mix, exhibiting an open mouth display and hackles raised. The Segugio mix reacts by swerving aside.

The female Shepherd mix has taken possession of the green doormat; when the male Golden Retriever approaches, she reacts by staring at him and exhibiting an agonistic pucker, then lunging forward. She sneezes twice returning to the doormat. The Golden Retriever again moves closer and the mixed breed stares at him, exhibits an agonistic pucker, then lunges forward, sneezing.

The black mixed breed male is in a frontal stance, exhibiting growl-barking, and staring directly toward my face. When I orient in a frontal stance, the dog bows and lunges forward and upwards (towards my face), then exhibits the intention to bite my hands, then again lunges forward and upwards.
