Dominance mounting
The dog raises his upper body and forelegs onto the back of another dog and wraps his legs around its hips; sometimes associated with pelvic thrusts. The submissive dog subjected to mounting displays ears flattened back and lowered tail; male dogs of equal status and females subjected to mounting by males usually react with growling, raised hackles and tail not lowered.

The female Australian Shepherd cross approaches the male smooth-coated Border Collie and displays dominance mounting. The male orients twice, then turns and gives a light jaw punch. The male shows anus-genital olfactory exploration; the bitch lowers her tail and rounds her back; when she re-orients toward the male, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier bitch interposes herself between the two.
