Dilated pupils

The pupils appear dilated, and under certain light conditions may take on a greenish colour.
(Ogburn et al, 1998; Beerda et al., 1997)

This Belgian Malinois is exhibiting attack behaviours toward an unfamiliar person outside his kennel run. He is showing excessive salivation, ears bent back, pupils dilated and rounded eyes.

This mixed breed dog is being held by his owner during a veterinary examination. His ears are turned sideways, and the white of his eyes is visible as are the dog's dilated pupils.

Photograph taken during a behavioural evaluation. The mixed breed male reacts to the prosthetic hand being placed near him with aggressive behaviour. His eyes are rounded; the pupils are dilated and have taken on a greenish colour.

The female Czech Wolf Dog enters the fenced area and walks with head down and tail up. She sniffs the urine marks on the gazebo pole, then approaches the mixed breed male at a trot. She licks her flews and flicks her tongue as she approaches, then exhibits a rear approach. The two dogs sniff each other, circling, and the male lowers his tail and leaves the interaction with back hunched, head and tail held low and a fearful expression. When the female follows him with an offensive facial display, he moves away, swerving and showing the white of his eyes, his pupils dilated. When the female tries to cut across his path, he swerves aside and leaves the interaction.
