Facial fear display
The facial muscles are tense, ears pinned back, eyes
widened and rounded, mouth either closed or open and
panting. The commissures may be pulled back.

The sable mixed breed female has reacted
to the approach of a male Bassethound with a fear
display: she has moved away, pinned her ears back, eyes
open and rounded.
This Terrier mix is expressing fear
after a confrontation with a male Tervueren mix. When
the female Tervueren mix stares at him, the male Terrier
mix is exhibiting a facial fear display with rounded
wide open eyes, tail down, and piloerection with hackles
raised on the withers and base of the tail.
This female Boxer stares in fear at the
photographer, her eyes wide open, muzzle contracted in
the expression which immediately precedes growling or
barking, ears pinned back.

while he is eating. The dog moves away, crouching down,
his eyes rounded with pupils dilated and the whites
visible.

The young German Shepherd reacts to physical contact
with a fear display:
ears turned sideways, eyes rounded and pupils dilated.
The dog attempts to leave, then licks his nose, touches
the hand with his muzzle and stares anxiously at the
exits.
