Walking head down

The dog walks holding its head down, as if to sniff the ground, maintaining attention focused on and launching indirect glances toward a stimulus.
(Murphy, 1998; Capra, 2011)

In this interaction between two females, the mixed breed moves away from a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, walking with head down, ears back and hackles raised on neck and withers.

When his owner begins to walk, the Bull Terrier follows him walking with head down.

The two Pit Bulls are meeting for the first time: the male is inside the fenced area, while the female is outside. The two dogs face off; the male wags his tail, then again stiffens and stands tall. The female avoids eye contact, then sniffs; the male averts his gaze and observes her. The male scratches the ground with his paws and sniffs. He then walks with head down, seeking support next to his owner.
