Fighting against the leash
The dog orients its muzzle toward his leash, or touches
it with his muzzle, then grabs it with his mouth and
bites it, or else hits the leash with his legs or rests
one or both forelegs on it.
(Ogburn et al., 1998; Capra,
2011)

This mixed breed has grabbed his leash
with his teeth and is trying to hit it with his
forelegs.
The Rottweiler puppy has grabbed his
leash and is holding it in his teeth.

This mixed breed has grabbed his leash
with his teeth. Chain link leashes are often used by the
owners of dogs that tend to fight against their leashes,
to discourage this behaviour.

This female Czech Wolf Dog was filmed during an
evaluation. She averts her gaze and avoids eye contact,
and when the evaluator approaches, she barks and
exhibits a frontal attack. She then barks again and
lunges forward and upward, before glancing to the side
towards an escape route, and turning brusquely before turning
her muzzle towards the leash and biting at it.
Her ears are back, and she lowers her head, staring at
her owner and then sniffing the air and orienting
towards the exit.

This Dobermann was adopted as an adult. He stiffens,
staring his owner in the face, then lowers his head and
pulls on his leash. He hurtles against his owner twice,
then grabs her arm in his teeth, lands, and fights
his harness, biting and shaking it. He grabs and
fights his leash, biting it, then again grabs
his harness. He stops, stiffens and again stares at his
owner's face, then hurtles against her.
