Hunching

Hunching the back for a brief moment.
(Murphy, 1998; van den Berg, 2003)

This German Shepherd mix is barking at other dogs as she hunches her back.

When this male Malinois growls and approaches in response to a threat display from a mixed breed female, she lowers her head and begins to move away, hunching her back, tail between her legs and exhibiting piloerection.

This male Alaskan Malamute exhibits a hunched back when the short-haired male German Shepherd approaches. The Malamute's ears are turned sideways. The short-haired German Shepherd moves away and the Malamute walks in the opposite direction, ears turned back. When the long-haired German Shepherd approaches, the Malamute again hunches his back, then leaves, turning his head to look at the German Shepherd, and when the Shepherd approaches, exhibits snapping.
