Immobility

Avoidance and ending of a behaviour, with body movements frozen or inhibited. In extreme forms, immobility is an element of learned helplessness.
(Seligman, 1971; Fox, 1971; Overall, 2007)

VIDEO

This video was filmed during a behavioural evaluation. This Cane Corso x Mastino Napoletano cross is being held on leash by an unfamiliar person. The dog is immobile, his head and tail down; the dog exhibits a facial fear display, showing the white of his eyes, and folding his ears back. He lowers his head and averts his gaze, wagging his tail briefly. When a person approaches, the dog wags his tail, which he is holding low, and remains immobile.
