ETHOGRAM

The list includes: behaviours related to alertness and fear; active defensive behaviours; behaviours used in agonistic interactions in de-escalation and to gain distance in terms of both space and time, allowing the dog's opponent to leave the interaction; stress-related behaviours; repeated behaviours, displacement behaviours that don't appear to be a form of intentional communication with an opponent but rather a way of interrupting an interaction. In this category, the dog exhibits certain behaviours that, in the context of a given situation and interaction, may not be considered an appropriate reaction.

Note to video clips: almost all of the videos were filmed by Alexa Capra, although some were filmed by Daniele Robotti. The video illustrating the "head toss" behaviour was filmed by Paulina Ziólkowska-Radomiak.
